"This part manière noire stone lithograph was partly inspired by the stuffed wild boar heads that one comes across in restaurants and butcheries in certain areas of France. I found the heads of these fierce and apparently aggressive beasts quite alien and intriguing. Coming from Africa I am more aware of lion and other wildlife trophies displayed on walls. The heads had a wild fierceness that I enjoy.

To jump one’s shadow is to jump across or attempt to escape or outwit one’s dark side, ‘doppelgänger’, or past history, the shadow's in one’s past which are best avoided. This makes reference to childhood games of luck and superstition and shadow jumping, where one slipped foot might damn you. To ‘jump someone’, also refers to an aggressive and surprise attack or of unplanned intercourse."
