Born in Liverpool of Cantonese immigrants, yi Hou moved to New York In 2017 to study at Columbia University. His work combines graphic interpretations of poetry, calligraphy, and graffiti with portraiture that celebrates his community through the lens of his Queer Asian diasporic identity.
This painting was acquired from his first solo exhibition in New York in 2021. Since then, he has been named recipient of the third annual UOVO prize, which resulted in his first solo museum exhibition and mural commission at the Brooklyn Museum tfall of 2022.
